OpenAI’s ChatGPT has captured the imagination of humanity since its launch in late November 2022 but now Google has also launched its own conversational AI service called ‘Bard’.
In a blog post, Google CEO Sundar Pichai made the announcement and said that the tool will be made available to public in the coming weeks. Currently, it is being opened for “trusted testers”.
Google’s Bard is powered by Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA)
“Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our large language models,” said the Google CEO.
Pichai said that the AI service draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses.
Bard could be the much-anticipated rival for the wildly popular AI chatbot ChatGPT.
“Bard can be an outlet for creativity, and a launchpad for curiosity, helping you to explain new discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old, or learn more about the best strikers in football right now, and then get drills to build your skills,” Pichai added.
Initially, Google will launch a lighter version of the model which features less computing power.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is expected to make an AI-related announcement on Tuesday.
