Google on Tuesday announced that it was opening the public access to its answer to OpenAI’s wildly popular ChatGPT. Named ‘Bard’, Google’s AI chatbot lets users collaborate with generative AI.
Beginning on Wednesday, Google has rolled out access to Bard in the US and UK. It will expand access to other countries and language subsequently.
Making the announcement, Sundar Pichai, CEO at Google and Alphabet tweeted, “We're expanding access to Bard in US + UK with more countries ahead, it's an early experiment that lets you collaborate with generative AI. Hope Bard sparks more creativity and curiosity, and will get better with feedback.”
In November 2022, OpenAI launched ChatGPT (an AI-powered chatbot) that became popular amongst the masses. Ever since, every tech conversation has included integration of AI across industries and has set off a competition in the tech sector to use the technology more.
Both Microsoft and Google have made a number of announcements around their AI developments since early this year to get an edge over the other. OpenAI’s ChatGPT has a close association with Microsoft, which has supported the former through billions of dollars in investment.
Google recently announced ‘Bard’ as its offering in the AI chatbot space, which could potentially rival ChatGPT. Bard offers users a blank text box and an invitation to ask questions about any topic they like.
“We’ll continue to improve Bard and add capabilities, including coding, more languages and multimodal experiences. And one thing is certain: We'll learn alongside you as we go. With your feedback, Bard will keep getting better and better,” Google said in its blog.
