Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s layoff announcement has grabbed great attention on LinkedIn. According to reports, the company handed the yellow slip to over 12,000 people in January. This didn’t go well with the ex-workers and most of them used LinkedIn to highlight their stories.
The layoff notification reportedly happened in the form of a sudden system lockdown, some were fired on vacations, maternity leaves, and more.
Reports also claim that employees were stranded in a queue, testing out their access passes at the Google office in New York. If the pass turned green, they were ‘in’ for the office, but if the pass turned red, the employees were straight laid off.
Google has always remained in the good books for its working culture, but recent layoffs has affected the multinational’s image, leaving many workers in tears.
Writing about the layoffs, Jennifer Vaden Barth, a laid-off employee of Google wrote on LinkedIn, the layoffs are difficult and it has hit women terribly hard, especially women over 40 including me. This is the time when we are at the top of our game, leadership. This has not only impacted our finances but we are emotionally disturbed as well.
She said, after working for over 15 years at Google, the news was dreadful to deal with. She emphasised the job had held her strong, offering golden handcuffs via the various financial incentives that the company offers to its employees.
Today after being laid off, it feels like breaking out of the golden handcuffs, she added.
