Google has begun bringing out Gemini Live, an upgraded version of its AI assistant, to Samsung smartphones and tablets, just in time for the debut of the Pixel 9 series. This capability, which was initially exclusively available to Gemini's paying members, represents a big step forward in AI integration for mobile devices.
Gemini Live, which was introduced at the presentation of the Pixel 9 series, is now available on Pixel and select Samsung devices. The AI assistant provides a more natural, conversational experience, allowing users to engage in continuous chat, interrupt responses for more information and return to earlier topics with ease. Although several of Gemini's anticipated integrations, such as those with Google services such as Calendar, Drive and YouTube, are not yet online but are scheduled to be available in the coming months.
When engaged, Gemini Live displays a sleek user interface with a distinctive waveform badge and a glitter icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. This design enables users to simply control their chats, which may be halted or ended with specific buttons. While the app now only supports English, Google has hinted that additional language options may be available shortly. Users can select from ten distinct speech selections, and the 'Interrupt Live Responses' feature can be turned on and off in the settings.
Samsung's presence in this, demonstrates a strategic cooperation with Google, especially given that Samsung's own AI assistant, Bixby, has trailed behind competitors such as Apple's Siri and Google's Gemini. Samsung has revealed its plans to improve Bixby with large language model (LLM) capabilities in the next One UI 7.0 update, aiming for a more natural comprehension of voice requests.
