Godrej Consumer Products (GCPL) has established itself as a global player in personal care and household care products with footprints across eight countries. The company is a market leader with its products like Goodknight and Magic that support a healthy India.
GCPL also boasts solid green credentials – it is water-positive, sends no waste to landfills and supports corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects that make India malaria-free, resolve solid waste management issues and recharge natural water ecosystems through integrated watersheds and sustainable agriculture. GCPL’s product like the Goodknight range of mosquito repellants helps protect and saves lives from deadly vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria.
GCPL’s sustainability targets include achieving net zero, maintaining water positivity, developing watersheds across the drought-affected regions of India and innovating in plastic packaging. They have reduced plastic packaging intensity by 17 per cent and aim to reach 20 per cent. Further, over 34 per cent of their plastic is recyclable.
Zero Liquid Discharge
GCPL has reduced water intensity by 30 per cent and is a water-positive company with zero liquid discharge. The company is working with municipalities across cities in India to resolve and innovate the solid waste management issue.
The company’s waste programmes cover 6,34,000 people with source segregation activities, process 1,786 tonnes of waste annually and recycle 535 tonnes of plastics per annum. Through their waste management projects, GPCL has diverted 2,321 million tonnes of waste from landfills.
GPCL works on fostering a sustainable supply chain and ensuring adherence to human rights in its supply chain. They have assessed 71 per cent of their suppliers for supply chain sustainability. GCPL has already achieved water positivity, that is, it sends back 6 times more water than withdrawal.
As for their CSR goals, they work on making India malaria-free. The company continues to scale up the Elimination of Mosquito-borne Endemic Diseases (EMBED) in partnership with the governments of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. EMBED works in alignment with the Government of India’s National Mission of Malaria Elimination by 2030.
Since 2015, the company has helped make 1,598 villages malaria-free making a difference in the lives of over 28.2 million people at high risk for malaria. They are also working with Nabard in the drought-prone regions of India to recharge aquifers in a sustainable fashion.
