Today (December 14) is the 91st birth anniversary of Raj Kapoor. The Showman of Bollywood, had acted, produced and directed more than 70 films.
He was the recipient of Filmfare Awards, the Padma Bhushan in 1971 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1987 and even twice nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for Awaara (1951) and Boot Polish (1954). Time magazine ranked his performance in Awaara as one of the top 10 greatest performances of all time.
Raj Kapoor was known for his acting and as a director, he introduced many actors such as his son Rishi Kapoor, but more than that he was remembered as the one who gave Bollywood its best heroines from Vyjanthimala (Sangam), Zeenat Aman (Satyam Shivam Sundaram) and Simi Garewal (Mera Naam Joker), etc.
