Retailers Association of India on Wednesday said that healthy growth is being recorded by the retail businesses pan India over pre-pandemic levels. An 18 per cent rise in sales in July was recorded as against the same month in 2019.
The latest business survey by RAI suggests that the East India region saw a 25 per cent year-on-year growth in the previous month, making it the highest so far. This was followed by the south region with 21 per cent, the north region with 16 per cent, and the west region with 10 per cent.
Category-wise, sports goods recorded a 32 per cent surge over July 2019, making it a category with the highest growth rate. This was followed by a 23 per cent surge each in the categories of footwear and furniture & furnishing. Apparel and clothing clocked a 22 per cent surge, and the quick service restaurants, consumer durables, and electronics footwear recorded a growth of 17 per cent.
This year, in July month, the jewellery category grew by 15 per in comparison to the same month in 2019. A 3 per cent rise was also recorded in the beauty, wellness and personal care category.
In a public statement, Kumar Rajagopalan, RAI CEO said, “Retail businesses across the country are looking good as healthy growth in sales over pre-pandemic level continues. Key categories like garments and footwear are showing traction.”
The month of June recorded a 13 per cent growth in sales of the retail businesses as compared to the same month in 2019.
