New report says Cloud Computing, 5G, Metaverse and EVs are the most important areas in technology in 2023.
The survey revealed global technology leaders said cloud computing (40 per cent), 5G (38 per cent), metaverse (37 per cent), electric vehicles (EVs) (35 per cent), and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) (33 per cent) will be the five most important areas of technology next year.
Global technology leaders from the US, UK, China, India and Brazil took part in this survey. The study included 350 chief technology officers, chief information officers and IT directors.
The report revealed sectors that will be most impacted by technology in 2023 are 40 per cent telecommunications, 39 per cent automotive and transportation, 33 per cent energy and 33 per cent banking and financial services, according the IEEE Study.
Global technologists surveyed said the innovations will be very important for advancing the development of the metaverse in 2023 including 71 per cent in 5G and ubiquitous connectivity, 58 per cent virtual reality (VR) headsets and 58 per cent augmented reality (AR) glasses.
A strong majority (95 per cent) of global technologists agree that space satellites for remote mobile connectivity will be a game-changer in 2023 because they enable 5G device connections anywhere, 24/7, leapfrogging terrestrial infrastructure. Close to nine out of 10 of global technologists (88 per cent) agree 6G will primarily be an evolving work in progress in 2023, but that in half a decade 6G will be standardised.
