Centre is all set to push the leading mobile-makers such as Apple and Samsung to rollout necessary software upgrades to support 5G in India.
The reported push from the government is expected as there are serious concerns regarding a vast majority of 5G phones not being ready for the high-speed service.
According to a Reuters report, top honchos from the telecom department and IT departments are going to hold a meeting on Wednesday to push for faster rollout of software upgrades to enable 5G adoption. The meeting will be attended by top mobile-makers including Apple, Samsung and Vivo amongst others and telcos such as Airtel, Jio and Vi as well.
Apple is yet to enable 5G in its phones, while many premiere smartphones from Samsung do not have software compatibility for 5G service.
PM Modi had launched commercial 5G launch in the country on Oct. 1 at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) with exuberance and aplomb. Telcos Airtel and Jio have already rolled out their 5G services in limited capacities across various locations in the country.
