According to insights revealed by Gartner, 60 per cent of organisations will embrace zero trust as a starting point for security by 2025. But the research firm believes that more than half of these organisations will fail to realise the benefits.
The revelation from Gartner comes a month after Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella during his India visit said that zero-trust approach would be important in cybersecurity as digital technology becomes more pervasive.
Zero-trust approach perceives every endpoint to be threatened and monitors all of incoming and outgoing network traffic, assuming that there is a data breach. In layman’s terms, zero-trust approach trusts no one within an organisation’s network, whether external or internal, to prevent lateral propagation in a network.
In its overview, Gartner has found that zero trust has been on top of mind for most organisations as a critical strategy to reduce risk in their environments. But despite this very few organisations have completed the scope of their zero-trust implementations so far.
This trend is expected to pick up.
According to a Research Dive report, the global zero trust security market is expected to garner a revenue of USD 87.1 billion and grow at 14.7 per cent CAGR during the 2021-2030 analysis timeframe.
The report listed Fortinet Inc., Broadcom Inc., Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., Fireeye, Cisco Systems Inc., Akamai Technologies, Palo Alto Networks, Mcafee LLC, IBM Corporation and Okta, as key players in zero trust security.
