Poonam Gupta is the Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) and a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. Moreover, Gupta is the founding director of NCAER’s National Macro and Growth Centre and the editor of its journals.
As part of academia, she taught at the Delhi School of Economics and the University of Maryland (U.S.) and has served as the RBI Chair Professor at NIPFP.
Gupta is currently a member of the World Bank’s Advisory Group for “Poverty and Equity Global Practice.”
Gupta’s focus has been on international financial architecture, economic growth, and monetary and fiscal policy frameworks. She won the 1998 EXIM Bank award for her Ph.D. in international economics.
