Apple is reportedly looking to boost its AI capabilities with an annual budget of approximately USD 1 billion. Apple is working on various fronts of the AI landscape, just like its counterparts, such as Microsoft, Meta, Google and Amazon.
Apple will now integrate AI not only into its voice assistant, Siri, but also in its iOS operating system for iPhones and also company operating systems.
According to a Bloomberg report, Apple's top executives John Giannandrea, Craig Federighi and Eddy Cue are heading this project to elevate the company's artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
According to the report, John Giannandrea is heading the project of developing the new AI system to enhance Siri. This is likely to be released in the next year.
Craig Federighi is actively working on the integration of AI into the company's operating systems. His team is working to into AI into the iOS system. The report indicated that this team's primary focus will be on features driven by Apple's extensive language model, known as AppleGPT. AI will enhance the user interaction with Siri and the message app.
Apple is also adding generative AI to their development tools like Xcode, which could speed up app creation, similar to Microsoft's GitHub Copilot.
Meanwhile, Eddy Cue's team is working on the integration of AI in as many apps as possible. Adding new features for Apple Music, like automatically generated playlists and productivity apps. Generative AI may also be used in apps like Pages or Keynote to help users with writing or creating presentations. Apple is also testing generative AI in AppleCare's internal customer service apps.
The report also mentioned that Apple is in talks to deploy generative AI either on the device, or in the cloud. On-device AI offers speed and privacy, while cloud-based AI allows for more advanced operations.
