YouTube To Face Criminal Charges Over 'Spying' Linked To Ad-Blocker Detection: Report
YouTube’s intensified efforts to combat ad blockers on its platform by launching a global initiative that encourages users to either disable their ad blockers or opt for YouTube Premium are unlawful attempts of the tech giant and this practice amounts to spying on EU citizens, said a recent media report.
The action was underlined by the privacy expert in a civil complaint under Ireland's computer abuse law. The expert in his civil complaint reportedly said that YouTube's browser interrogation system detects ad-blockers and infringes the Irish Data Protection Commission.
The expert asserted that YouTube's script can be considered to be a spyware or surveillance technology whose sole purpose is to intercept and monitor user behaviour.
The complaint is meant to send a strong message to Google that it needs to end its surveillance practices that break EU law.
