Nick Pickles, the Global Affairs head at X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced his resignation after more than ten years with the social media company.
Pickles revealed that Friday will be his last day at X, marking the end of a decade-long journey with the platform. His departure comes after several months of transition planning with CEO Linda Yaccarino.
The reasons behind his decision to step down remain unclear, and neither Pickles nor X, owned by Elon Musk, have responded to media inquiries regarding his exit.
Pickles joined X in 2014 as a senior manager in the company’s London office and steadily rose through the ranks, becoming Vice President of Global Affairs in 2023.
During his tenure, he played a key role in the company’s engagement with governments worldwide, often acting as the spokesperson in regulatory disputes. One of his most recent challenges involved a legal clash in Brazil, where the government suspended access to the platform after X missed a court-imposed deadline to appoint a legal representative. Musk criticised the suspension as censorship, while Brazil’s Supreme Court insisted on compliance with local hate speech regulations.
Pickles’ departure follows the exit of X’s head of business operations, Joe Benarroch, in June, raising concerns about the company’s leadership stability under Musk. It is yet to be seen what Pickles’ next career move will be.
