The Central government of India is aiming to achieve 12 per cent ethanol blending with Petrol in 2022-23.
Apex officials from the food, public distribution and petroleum ministries held a review meeting on Monday to check on the progress of the target.
Ethanol is also called ethyl alcohol is also a biofuel. Ethanol is naturally made by the fermentation of sugar.
Secretaries from both the ministries and oil marketing companies and the chairman of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) were also present at the meeting.
GOI has initiated the Ethanol Blended Petrol ( EBP) programme to mix biofuel with Petrol to cut down the consumer fossil fuel.
As per the sources, the companies are confident enough to go ahead to supply sufficient ethanol to meet the targets.
