Delhi Environmental Minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday said that purchasing and bursting firecrackers on Diwali in New Delhi will be punishable by a jail term of six months and a fine of Rs 200.
Along with this, the punishment for the production and storage of firecrackers could land one a jail term of three years under Section 9B of the Explosives Act with a fine of up to Rs 5,000.
While addressing a press conference, he further included that 408 teams have been prepared to implement the ban.
While Delhi Police under assistant Commissioners of Police has set up 210 teams, Revenue Department with 165 groups and Delhi Pollution Control Committee with 33 groups have prepared to keep a check in the capital.
Arvind Kejriwal's government will launch an awareness campaign, 'Diye Jalao, Patakhe Nahi' on 21 October. In consideration, 51,000 diyas will be lit by AAP party workers in Connaught Place on Friday.
Rai added that 188 cases of firecrackers violations have been reported till mid of October.
