With the upcoming festive season, retail businesses across the country clocked a growth of 21 per cent in sales in September, as compared to pre-pandemic levels (2019), as per a survey by the Retailers Association of India (RAI).

When compared to last year, India retail sales grew by 17 per cent in September this year.
In a public statement, Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO, RAI stated, "Since consumers get a chance to do unrestricted shopping as well as there are no restrictions on meeting relatives and friends after pandemic, almost all categories are showing good growth. Business is also expected as customers are travelling during festive season holidays." He added that omnichannel retail had increased the capability for consumers to shop at their convenience.
Food and grocery recorded a strong growth of 56 per cent this year over September 2019, category-wise. This was followed by QSR, sports goods, and consumer durables and electronics segment.
