A 15 per cent growth in sales has been recorded by retailers across India, in comparison to the pre-pandemic levels (August 2019), as per a recent survey by the Retailers Association of India (RAI).
In a public statement, Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO, Retailers Association of India (RAI) said, “Most items have witnessed inflation. Retailers are indicating that higher price items are selling well, and lower price items are not seeing as much growth. This clearly depicts that while the upper middle and elite class are shopping, lower income group customers are not shopping much. Hope this is temporary and consumption gets more broad-based as the festive season kicks in.”
The sales in the eastern parts of the country have been recorded a growth of 19 per cent, whereas those in the southern parts of the country have recorded it at 12 per cent. The northern Indian sales saw a growth of 18 per cent and the western Indian sales recorded at 11 per cent.
A steady increase has been recorded across categories. Strong performances have been showcased by sports goods, footwear, QSR, and Jewellery, in the month of August.
