Navin Doshi, VP & Head, India Engineering, Bidgely, who boasts two decades of experience in building data and analytics products, has infused fresh air into the business through his skillful blend of managerial and technological experience. “We strongly believe in continuous performance evaluation and regular conversation with our people on improvement and value addition into the organisation,” he told BW Businessworld about his employee policy.

On the importance of people and profits
Bidgely is transforming the energy management market through its leading cut-throat artificial intelligence driven technology and solutions. The company’s mission is to empower the utility customers (electricity companies) and home consumers by optimising shareholder value, personalising consumer engagement and modernising the grid. The biggest asset is our highly energetic, passionate and high-performance team which continues to push the boundaries of energy management in order to deliver improved energy efficiencies and savings, increased customer satisfaction and grid stability for our utility customers and their consumers.
On what makes Bidgely a great place to work
We believe in creating a culture of mutual respect, learning, transparency and fairness while having fun. On the company’s evolution
Since the beginning, the founding team has been a tightly knit group and well aligned in our value system. In the early days, we didn’t have any formal HR policies in place but we knew each other well enough to know what we all like, value and aspire. We have grown at breakneck speed and we realised the need to institutionalise our core values and beliefs that we could pass through various generations of our new employees. The well-defined policies and HR processes also brings coherency, uniformity and clarity in the organisation. However, hiring of new talented people bringing new ideas help us to learn and bring about people-oriented policies and norms in the company. One of the model that makes us different in the industry is our continuous evaluation and improvement programmes wherein through regular conversation with our people on performance and how they can add more value to the organisation. Very few startups have a well-defined process in this area. As we were adding multiple layers of managers, we realised that this idea shouldn’t get diluted. So we defined a formal quarterly review process where the focus is on giving them actionable insights into their day-to-day work. We don’t believe in comparative rating of people as each one of them is special in his or her own way.
