Chinese smartphone company OnePlus has finally launched its latest flagship smartphone OnePlus 5T at an event in New York. The major improvements in the OnePlus 5T over its predecessor are - high-resolution 18:9 display, low-light camera performance, and some tweaks in OxygenOS software. What has OnePlus really brought in with the new flagship device?
Software and Processor
Both handsets run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with company’s OxygenOS on top; both will soon be getting Android 8.0 Oreo update.
Just like its predecessor, OnePlus 5T is powered by a 2.45 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. Both smartphones come in two RAM and storage configurations of 6GB RAM+64GB storage and 8GB RAM+128GB. There is no MicroSD card slot in the smartphones and storage cannot be expanded.
Display
OnePlus 5 features a 5.5-inch full HD (1920x1080) optic AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass and Corning Glass Glass 5 for protection on top.
The major highlight of OnePlus 5T is its 18:9 display, it features a 6.01-inch full HD (2160x1080) AMOLED display with an 18:9 ratio, 2.5D curved glass and Corning Glass 5 for protection.
Camera
OnePlus 5 sports a dual camera on the rear with 16-megapixel+20-megapixel sensors and dual LED Flash where first one is a wide-angle camera with f/1.7 and second one is a telephoto lens with f/2.6 aperture. On the front is a 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and Screen Flash.
OnePlus 5T sports the same camera setup like its predecessor. The primary wide angle 16-megapixel IMX 398 sensor is exactly the same with f/1.7 aperture. The company has equipped a new 20-megapixel telephoto IMX 376K sensor which has f/1.7 aperture and excels in low-light photography.
On the front is the same 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and Screen Flash.
Battery And Other Features
Both handsets have a same non-removable 3300mAh battery which supports Dash Charge and have dedicated slots for dual-SIM (nano+nano) configuration.
The smartphone also has a front mounted fingerprint sensor which unlocks it in 0.2 seconds.
OnePlus 5T has lesser bezels which mean there is no physical home button on the front and the fingerprint sensor has now moved on the rear side. The company has also introduced facial recognition which works like Apple’s Face ID and it unlocks the phone in 0.4 seconds. OnePlus claims that you can unlock the phone even if you are wearing a hat or glasses.
On the other hand, OnePlus 5 only has a rear mounted fingerprint-sensor.
Connectivity options for both OnePlus 5 and 5T includes- Wi-Fi 2x2 MIMO, Wi-fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm audio-jack, USB Type-C, NFC, GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou.
OnePlus 5T is slightly larger than the OnePlus 5. OnePlus 5T measures 156.1 x 75 x 7.3mm and weighs 162 grams. On the other hand, OnePlus 5 is slightly slimmer and lighter in weight; it measures 154.2 x 74.1 x 7.25mm and weighs 153 grams.
Price and Availability In India
It is worth mentioning that the company hasn’t increased the price of the new phone. OnePlus 5T price in India is Rs 32,999 for 64GB and Rs 37,999 for 128GB variant. It only comes in midnight black colour.
OnePlus 5T will go on Early Access sale on 21 November at 4:30 pm on Amazon and OnePlus online store India. The device will also be available through all sales channels in the country soon after.
As of now OnePlus 5 is also priced same as its predecessor but it’s obvious that the company will reduce the price of this device once OnePlus 5T goes on sale. It comes in slate grey, midnight black, and soft gold colours.
