On Vedantu’s origin:
In 2006, we started Lakshya where we started to teach and got some amazing results. We ran this venture for almost eight years. In 2014, we started Vedantu. We were very successful in getting some good results in teaching.
On Byju’s as competition:
Vendatu is an alternative to tuition and coaching centres. My vision is to create experience-based classes and a Lakshya kind of a set-up at a price-point which is almost one-third to one-fourth (of coaching). This will give you an idea of who do we compete with. The positioning of Byju’s is different. The basic conflict is when parents have to decide if they should send the child to a tuition centre or Vedantu.
On edtech companies being established by engineers:
I don’t consider myself an engineer. I consider myself as an educationist. It’s good that these people come from big colleges. It just that it helps us with getting contacts and get a perspective on technology. But a strong help happens when you are from a teaching or an education background.
On Vedantu’s goals:
In our experience of teaching at Lakshya, there is a lot that can be done in terms of affordability, availability and specialisation in this segment. We obviously can’t be touching schools because it’s regulated. It’s important to understand the requirements of the child inside the classroom along with what content and support does a child really require. This is what we do.
