The non-profit organisation alleges that the Indian government made these changes without seeking public input and implemented them through unauthorised means.
A Vedanta representative did not provide an immediate response.
"In one instance, Vedanta actively advocated for allowing mining companies to increase production by up to 50 per cent without requiring new environmental clearances," the organisation stated.
Vedanta's oil subsidiary, Cairn India, is also accused of successfully pushing for the elimination of public hearings for exploratory drilling in oil blocks it acquired through government auctions. Despite local objections, the organisation claims that six of Cairn's contentious oil projects in Rajasthan have received approval.
