Twitter CEO Elon Musk on Tuesday said calls and encrypted messaging features will be rolled out on the platform.
Musk had originally announced the plans around encrypted direct messages (DMs) last year when he had claimed of making Twitter the “Everything App”, which would also have features like longform tweets and payments.
On Tuesday, Musk said in a tweet, "Coming soon will be voice and video chat from your handle to anyone on this platform, so you can talk to people anywhere in the world without giving them your phone number."
The voice and video chat on the platform will enable Twitter users to speak with other users without phone numbers.
Similar call features of video and audio are already available on other popular social media platforms such as Meta’s Facebook and Instagram.
Musk also said that a version of encrypted direct messages will be availed on Twitter starting Wednesday.
Earlier this week, the CEO said the platform was shutting down and archiving accounts which have been inactive for several years.
