Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has won a new multi-year contract with Air France-KLM to drive a major digital transformation for the European airline group. Over the next three years, TCS will assist the aviation leader in modernising its data landscape by moving core systems and crucial business data to the cloud.
This partnership is expected to promote the airline’s goal of building a more adaptive, data-driven operation, while supporting a sustainable aviation model. Key areas of the business — including flight operations, passenger services, aircraft maintenance, and e-commerce — will benefit from the shift to cloud infrastructure, enabling improved decision-making, increased operational efficiency, and enhanced functionality.
This new cloud-based data architecture will enable Air France-KLM to exit physical data centres and harness the flexibility and security of the cloud. The airline aims to redefine operational standards across business functions, fostering seamless and secure data management in alignment with industry-leading technology.
“The partnership with Air France-KLM is one of TCS’ longest relationships in Europe. With KLM being our first customer in the Netherlands, the relationship between TCS and Air France-KLM is built on countless joint journeys, spanning multiple decades, opportunities, and challenges,” Sapthagiri Chapalapalli, Head of Europe at TCS said.
TCS’s role will involve facilitating this smooth migration to the cloud, strengthening data processing capabilities, and enhancing technological foundations to unlock new possibilities for the airline. The partnership will set benchmarks for digital transformation in the travel and transport sectors, contributing to enhanced customer experience, operational excellence, and sustainability.
The deal is the latest milestone in a partnership between TCS and Air France-KLM that has spanned three decades. TCS has already delivered innovative solutions for the airline group, including a suite of award-winning mobile apps and passenger services like digital queuing and social media-enabled boarding pass collection, enhancing convenience and control for travelers.
“While using technology to set the standards for customer experience in airline travel year after year, we managed to strengthen and deepen our partnership at the same time. This new deal is a compliment to both Air France-KLM and TCS teams for their mutual trust, commitment, and perseverance to build long lasting and successful partnerships that drive sustainable growth,” added Chapalapalli.
