Tamil Nadu government has earmarked Rs 505.03 crore for upgrading and taking up new highway projects in the financial year 2017-18.
Through the Ministry of Road Transport, Shipping and Highways, an expenditure of Rs 798.27 crore was incurred for widening and construction of bridges in the State, according to a policy note tabled in the Assembly on Thursday (29 June).
For the development of State roads under inter-state connectivity scheme, an expenditure of Rs 51.66 crore was incurred during the financial year 2016-17.
"For the financial year 2017-18, a budget provision of Rs 505.03 crore has been earmarked for centrally sponsored State schemes," it said.
Last year, the government had incurred an expenditure of Rs 168.61 crore under revamped central road and Bharat Nirman maintenance fund schemes, it added.
