The new Surface Pro 4 arrives with a new and larger 12.3-inch display which comes at a staggering 2736x1824 resolution with 267 pixels per inch. That is the highest pixel density on any tablet today and somehow Microsoft has retained the size and form factor of the tablet as it was on the last generation. The protective Gorilla Glass 4 on the display is just 0.4mm thick which is again the first in its class. A new stylus was also revealed which will come with 1,024 levels of pressure and along with the new PixelSense inking technology, it will help users in designing through software right on the display. The stylus can magnetically attach to the device and is said to come with a battery life of one year. A variety of different pen-tips for the stylus will deliver different outputs based on the type of inking you're using like taking notes, painting, sketching, etc. This will be achieved thanks to a G5 chipset which will bring in ink-like functions to the tablet. The Type cover now has proper tactile keys on the keyboard with a 1.3mm travel and a glass multi-touch touchpad. The new keyboard case can also be used with old Surface 3.
Hardware specs include 1TB of storage, up to 16GB of RAM and an 8MP camera. There's also a docking station with four USB 3.0 ports, two 4K DisplayPort and an Ethernet port which boosts the productivity of the Surface Pro 4.
This year Microsoft had another product to show off, a laptop version of the Surface tablet called the Surface Book. The machine is a valiant effort by Microsoft that comes with a detachable 13.5-inch display with a 3000x2000 resolution incorporating the same PixelSense technology as the Surface Pro 4. The laptop has a full-sized keyboard with backlit keys, and a unique hinge mechanism called ‘Dynamic Fulcrum’ which bends and docks the tablet part, be it the front or the back. The Surface Book will be available with the latest 6th-gen Core i7 processor and an nVidia GeForce for graphics processing which will be embedded in the keyboard, so one has to dock it to obtain the full potential. Microsoft claims a 12 hour battery life and also said that it is faster than the 13-inch MacBook Pro.
Both the Surface products state of the art, but knowing Microsoft’s history, there is a high chance they might never officially arrive in India . Even if Microsoft does plan to get them to the country, the prices won’t attract a lot of consumers. The Surface 4 Pro starts at $899 (Rs. 57,000) and the Surface Book at $1499 (Rs. 97,000). Now that is not not exactly affordable.
