Social media platform X has stirred controversy by refusing to comply with orders from India's election commission.
The platform said on Tuesday that it had withheld certain posts in India containing political speech, as directed by the election commission. These posts reportedly involved content from elected politicians, political parties and candidates for office. However, X, which is owned by Elon Musk, openly expressed its disagreement with the election commission's directives.
In response, X called on the Election Commission to release all of its takedown orders in the future.
"We call on the Election Commission to publish all of its takedown orders going forward," X said.
India will embark on the world's largest electoral exercise, with nearly a billion eligible voters expected to participate starting on Friday.
