The State Bank of India (SBI) has introduced a digital facility for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to seamlessly open NRE and NRO accounts (both savings and current accounts) through SBI's YONO.
This service is tailored for NTB or “new to bank" customers, offering them convenience and efficiency in the account opening process.
"With the introduction of this digital service, NRIs can open their NRE/NRO accounts from the comfort of their homes, eliminating the requirement for a physical visit to India. This forward-thinking approach streamlines the process for NRI customers and equips SBI branches with the resources to deliver prompt and effective customer service," remarked Nitin Chugh, Deputy Managing Director & Head (Digital Banking & Transformation), on the occasion of the launch.
The bank has simplified the steps and this is how NRI/NRO accounts can be opened through YONO - Download the YONO SBI app, select the option to open an NRE/NRO account, upon successful submission, customers have two options for submitting their KYC documents either to present the documents at an SBI branch of your choice in India or have the KYC documents attested by a Notary, Indian Embassy, High Commission, SBI Foreign Office, Representative Office, Court Magistrate, or Judge, and send them to a centrally designated branch for processing.
Customers can monitor the status of their applications in real-time.
