Royal Enfield plans to debut its first production electric motorcycle in the fiscal year 2025 according to a recent interview with CEO B. Govindarajan. The new model boasts a unique look and a fixed battery with fast-charging capabilities, marking the renowned motorcycle brand's entry into the electric vehicle industry.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Royal Enfield CEO B. Govindarajan revealed that the company's first electric motorcycle will be released in fiscal year 2025. Govindarajan stated that the new bike will have a fixed battery system rather than a swappable one, emphasising its quick charging capabilities and clean look. He stated that, despite the current issues that other firms experience in making electric vehicles profitable, Royal Enfield's entry into the industry will be both competitive and financially feasible.
Royal Enfield is apparently developing at least two electric motorcycle ideas. One of these is an electric Himalayan prototype, which has been dubbed a glimpse of future goods. The other, more urgent idea is a lightweight, city-oriented electric bike with classic appearance, similar to the Maeving RM1. This city bike is likely to be the first to enter the market.
According to recent design files, the forthcoming model could be titled "Royal Babe-E" or "Flying Flea." Since 2020, Eicher, Royal Enfield's parent business, has filed many trademark applications for the Flying Flea moniker. Meanwhile, "Royal Babe-E" was mentioned in the background of Royal Enfield's 2022 investor relations presentation, hinting at its prospective application.
