Company Name: Fingent
Industry: Information Technology
India HQ: Kochi
Employee Strength: 423
Fingent does not follow the ‘typical’ industry norms in its ways of working and in doing so it aims to provide a more enriching experience for its employees. The company believes there are multiple platforms and opportunities to hone professional skills and contribute meaningfully to organisational objectives and even to the community.
Custom Made
While the most common performance management practice in the industry is a ranking-based system, Fingent has a contribution-based performance evaluation intended for the development of a Fingentite rather than a performance metric. This has been practised from the initial days and the evaluations were mostly verbal. Though the feedback was effective, as the company grew, it wanted a more impactful system that stayed true to its philosophy of performance management. Fingent built a custom-made system for this.
It recorded any form of feedback, about a job well done or a need for improvement, or a new skill development area, the only constraint being that it must be specific and useful to the Fingentite and is created only after one-on-one interaction with the employee. These enable managers to recommend merit-oriented increments based on qualitative judgements.
Opening New Opportunities
The company also has Knowledge Sharing sessions (KSS) through FinCast. This training and development initiative also supports every employee’s development. These sessions help employees and their peers to learn and keep themselves updated regarding projects and technologies, as well as learn new technologies.
The organisation invests in developing its people through internal (non-billable) projects, which are executed by transitioning high-skilled staffing out of billable projects and practices and processes used for customer projects. This not only provides them with the opportunity to work in new or upcoming technology areas but also helps them to innovate and create software that could be used within the organisation.
The Employees’ Thumbs Up
“Fingent’s culture is unique. We are treated like people and not as a resource to do just the job. This is a people-oriented organisation where importance is given to people. Fingent is like family, people help each other and they support us even if we are having personal troubles. The management is putting significant effort to maintain the culture and they are very ethical,” comments an employee, voicing the popular school of thought in the company’s workforce.
