Health technology player, Royal Philips conducted the groundbreaking ceremony of its new R&D centre in Pune on Monday, intending to expand its healthcare innovation centre in India.
The upcoming facility is situated in a 10-acre plot in MIDC, Chinchwad and will have an office space of approximately 300,000 sq ft in the first phase, housing nearly 1900 employees.
The new centre will be operational in two years and will accommodate R&D teams from the company’s Image Guided Therapy, Precision Diagnosis, Monitoring and Sleep & Respiratory businesses. By integrating all teams in one centre, Philips claims to optimise scale, speed and efficiency while also supporting resource and best practice sharing across businesses.
The company highlighted working on innovative health technologies, the new centre will contribute to its global mission to improve the lives of 2.5 billion people a year by 2030.
Underscoring a commitment to sustainability, the company said the new centre will have green power, and EV charging provisions, encouraging bicycle commuting. In addition to being a significant landmark in Philips’ global footprint, the launch of this centre is also to strengthen the company’s commitment to taking a technology-first approach toward expanding access to care.
Currently, the company has a workforce of more than 9000 employees, spread across various locations such as the healthcare innovation Centre in Pune, the innovation Campus in Bengaluru, the Global Business Services in Chennai and the commercial team based in Gurgaon.
These teams play a crucial role in Philips' operations in India and are dedicated to assisting the Indian government in achieving its healthcare objectives, particularly in enhancing the medical devices sector in the country.
Peeyush Kaushik, Vice President and Head of the Healthcare Innovation Centre Pune said in a statement, "With the launch of this new centre, we will be able to design more innovative end-to-end solutions and collaborate better with healthcare providers as we look to meet our common goal of attaining better health outcomes."
Established in 2011, Philips Healthcare Innovation Centre (HIC), Pune, is focused on multi-modality healthcare R&D and smart manufacturing, complete product development incorporating customer feedback to commercialisation and operational excellence.
