Safra Catz, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Oracle, on Tuesday, stressed putting customer success at the front and having the courage, leadership, mindset for action and attitude to use the newest technologies.
Kicking off the Oracle CloudWorld here in Las Vegas, Catz, in her keynote address, delved into how companies are handling change and embracing technology to change their operations.
While introducing some of Oracle’s customers, Catz said that these companies saw situations changing in their industry and took the risk by moving to new technology and advancing even further than they had imagined.
She was joined by Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, who elaborated on the art of balancing growth and profitability.
Citing the example of Uber Moto in Brazil and its growth, Khosrowshahi said it is impossible to predict how quickly some new products can scale up.
“Being able to modernise our back-end ecosystem and work with Oracle Cloud has allowed us to scale these products in a way we could have never before,” Khosrowshahi said.
On the growth forecast for the next year, Khosrowshahi said that 100% of Uber’s growth in computing will come on Oracle Cloud, which allows to scale the runway and ensure that the unit economics stay predictable.
Leonardo Capdeville, Chief Technology Information Officer, TIM Brasil, underscored the importance of the latest partnership between Oracle and Microsoft.
Capdeville said that the new partnership now enables them to choose the best of each technology and apply it to the system.
Last week, Oracle and Microsoft Corp announced Oracle Database@Azure, which gives customers direct access to Oracle database services running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and deployed in Microsoft Azure datacenters.
Highlighting the seamlessness of Oracle’s Human Capital Management (HCM) system, Aaron Bly, Chief Information Officer, First Solar, said that the HCM puts individual needs at the centre.
“It is all based on what an individual needs to do or somebody as a manager needs to do with their staff,” Bly said.
Bly also acknowledged the use of AI in manufacturing solar panels and the “fantastic” results it has given and expressed his keenness in learning about Oracle’s AI rollout through all its platforms.
Catz stressed making customers successful and having the courage, leadership and mindset for action to use the newest technologies.
Oracle CloudWorld 2023 takes place in the backdrop of the company’s cloud sales growth failing to live up to expectations. While generative AI remains a central theme at the forum, analysts have raised doubts about when its demand can turn into revenue.
