On the company’s relevance 10 years from now: Wok Express is a niche player in the market. In an industry inundated with western fast food, we serve pan-Asian gourmet food in the quick service restaurant (QSR) format at affordable prices for our customers. Considering our first movers advantage, we believe we have opened up a new dimension in the food industry, and thus our company will be very relevant and at the forefront of the new age food industry.
On the future of the business: India’s F&B industry, especially the Indian eating out space and western fast food industry are growing at a fast pace. We are players in the pan-Asian gourmet food which doesn’t necessarily categorise under western fast food or Indian fast food. In fact, we are an entirely new segment in ourselves. So, the future of our business looks bright.
On the other hand, the industry is moving from the unorganised to organised sector and our business is already an established brand. That helps the nature of our evolving business and keeps us relevant.
On the importance of AI and blockchain to the business: Since we are still in the growth phase our business, we see the potential of artificial intelligence and blockchain, but have a slightly long way to go to get to use the full potential of the technologies. However, the way our industry is evolving, we see this happening sooner than later.
On the possibility of shrinking jobs due to technology intervention in the sector: As a QSR brand, we are always going to be both people and technology focused but our primary business will remain people intensive. Technology will always aide training, learning and development, but we don’t see it replacing the human interface.
Message to young entrepreneurs and startup founders: Competition is highly overrated. If you know your business is a niche and you are willing to go the extra mile to keep it relevant. Never give yourself or anyone else an opportunity to doubt your work or worth.
