The OnePlus X comes with a metal bezel frame and a glass finished back panel which OnePlus says gives it a premium feel. The company has used a special Onyx black glass which is first cut to size and thenpolished repeatedly until it achieves a mirror-like finish. It is also the slimmest smartphone the company has ever made with a thickness of 6.9mm. The OnePlus X will also have a limited Ceramic-back edition, which apparently takes 25 days to fabricate. Both the versions look like black glass slabs with a solid feel, but due to the glossy finish it gets quite slippery.
The smartphone will run on an old Snapdragon 801 processor which is the same as the OnePlus One along with 3GB of RAM. The inbuilt-storage is 16GB which can be expanded via a microSD card slot to up to 128GB. The 5-inch display has a full-HD (1920x1080) resolution and uses an AMOLED panel which gives deep blacks and higher saturation of colours. A new 13MP ISOCELL camera module with an f/2.2 aperture has been used which uses phase detection autofocus system for faster focusing. There is also an 8MP front-facing camera along with a Beauty Mode to capture selfies. Other features include dual SIM card slots and LTE support, a 2,525mAH battery and Android 5.1 with Oxygen OS.
OnePlus has basically refreshed the OnePlus One with a brand new design package. The device itself runs smooth and the compact design definitely feels good. Even the camera felt slightly better than the OnePlus 2. But it is noteworthy that the company is using an old processor for a new handset. This isn't entirely bad as it was one of the more stable and battery friendly mobile chips, but it does not support 64-bit processing, which is something which all the new mobile operating systems utilize. The pricing is also slightly on the higher side as users are paying a lot more for hardware which is now more than a year old. The OnePlus X Onyx will be available on Amazon.in with an invite starting 5th of November at Rs. 16,999. The limited Ceramic edition will be available with a specific invite starting November 24 at Rs. 22,999.
