Oil India Ltd (OIL) has assured, to recruit around 2500 people from Assam in different grades in the next five years, during a meeting with chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the State Secretariat on Thursday (1 June). The chief minister had asked OIL to play a role to help reduce employment in the state.
“OIL being a credible, efficient and responsible company must come forward to help create more jobs to our youth. It must develop a mechanism for recruitment so that skilled and qualified youths of the state find employment in the public sector undertaking,” the minister said.
OIL will properly carry out assessments for employment requirement in the company and employ around 2500 people in the state in the next five years. Sonowal has also asked OIL to invest into Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects and for producing organic manure and generation of power in the state.
Sonowal added, “Management of solid waste is a major challenge for all urban areas. If OIL employs its expertise and technology to produce organic manure and generating power by investing under CSR in solid waste management projects, this will be its biggest contribution to the state.”
OIL Chairman and Managing Director Utpal Bora requested Assam to make some progress to connect Assam to the National Gas Grid which will help the company to provide gas pipeline to the household and industries covering major towns.
The chief minister has persuaded to take up the matter to union petroleum ministry. However, Bora raised concerns about the security of the company and law and order situation impact on oil and gas exploration during the discussion.
The minister also took note of the progress of work of the Skill Development Centre being set up by Oil India Ltd.
