Odisha Crime Branch has written to Google asking to remove 45 illegal loan apps from its Playstore. These loan apps are reportedly resorting to unprofessional and unethical tactics to recover money from borrowers.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Crime Branch has written to Google that loans apps like ‘KOKO Loan’ and ‘JOJO Loan’ are using Google Playstore illegally. There are at least 45 such loan apps on Google app platform according Odisha police.
In its letter to Google, EOW mentioned, "These apps have been illegally providing short term loans at very high interest rates. These apps are not authorised by the RBI to do so. Besides, these loan apps are using illegal methods of harassing, threatening, blackmailing, using extremely filthy language in order to extort money from victim loanees".
