NordVPN has decided to shut its Indian servers to become the third large VPN provider to exit the country after the new directive on VPNs were announced in late April.
After MeitY’s meeting last week with the tech experts, companies and VPN providers, it was made clear that the new directives from Cert-In would stand and proceed to be enforced on June 27. This has given companies, especially, VPN providers no option but to shut their Indian servers.
ExpressVPN was the first large player in the VPN space to announce the shutdown of Indian servers followed by Surfshark a week later. And now, NordVPN has decided to do the same
“As one of the industry leaders, we adhere to strict privacy policies, which means we don't collect or store customer data. No-logging features are embedded in our server architecture and are at the core of our principles and standards. Moreover, we are committed to protecting the privacy of our customers. Therefore, we are no longer able to keep servers in India,” said Laura Tyrylyte, head of public relations at NordVPN said in a statement.
Moving forward, NordVPN has said that its Indian servers will remain operational until June 26. But unlike ExpressVPN, NordVPN has not said anything on making its virtual servers available for its Indian users. The company instead said that its users will receive notifications on the company’s plans after June 20.
