Netflix will no longer reveal its subscriber numbers during financial quarter reports, beginning in the first quarter of 2025. Instead, the video streaming platform will share this information only when significant milestones are achieved.
The company made this unexpected revelation on Thursday, as per reports indicating its continuous growth in the competitive streaming industry may be reaching an end.
The company’s decision can also be considering its first quarter results, as it experienced a sharp decline in shares after reporting a large batch of new consumers and gave a revenue forecast that missed analyst targets.
Additionally, Netflix highlighted that its ad-supported streaming plans helped it to amass new customers which were about 9.3 million, bringing it to a global total of 269.6 million in March end.
This new decision adds Netflix to the group of social media companies Meta and microblogging platform X, the digital giants who are following the practice of not disclosing their user metrics due to slower growth.
Meanwhile, Netflix has assured shareholders it will be working on its business growth by improving its content in variety and quality and scaling its advertising business.
Netflix urged investors to focus on revenue and operating margins when assessing its progress, rather than merely evaluating the customer counts.
