Axis Bank has announced the appointment of Munish Sharda as a Whole-time Director, with the title of Executive Director. The decision was made at a meeting held by the Board of Directors last week. Sharda's appointment is effective from either 1 November 2023 or upon approval by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), whichever is later.
Sharda's tenure as Executive Director will span three years, subject to approval by the bank's shareholders and the RBI. As part of the bank's corporate governance structure, Munish Sharda will be liable to retire by rotation.
Munish Sharda, aged 52, has held the position of Group Executive & Head – Bharat Banking at Axis Bank since September 2021. In this role, he is responsible for driving business growth in Rural and Semi-urban markets across all product offerings of the Bank, including MFI, Retail, MSME, Wholesale and Retail deposits, as well as leading the Bank's Financial Inclusion initiatives.
With over 25 years of experience in the banking and financial services sector, Munish Sharda has worked across various product categories in the major markets of India. He brings a wealth of leadership experience in scaling businesses, utilising digital and technology solutions for achieving business objectives, developing human capabilities and enhancing the overall customer experience.
