Indian Smartphone maker, Micromax announces its comeback in the market with the ‘IN’ Range of smartphones.
Micromax on Twitter said, “We're #INforIndia with #INMobiles! What about you?" and shared a video in which Rahul Sharma, Co-founder of Micromax shared the Journey of Micromax and how it failed to compete with Chinese manufacturers.
“What happened at the border was not right. So, when our Prime Minister gave the clarion call for an Atmanirbhar Bharat, we decided to respond to that and so Micromax India is coming back.” Finally, Sharma flashes a large blue box, with a large 'in' logo above it, supposedly the new smartphone range that the company will launch under its "in" branding.
As per reports, the company has also confirmed to invest Rs 500 crore on the expansion of local manufacturing and research and development (R&D) operation as it prepares to re-enter the smartphone market.
To recall, Micromax was one of the top smartphone manufacturers in India around 2014. In Q4 2014, Micromax had even surpassed the market share of Samsung. When Chinese giants entered the Indian market with deep pockets, Indian Manufacturers including Micromax started lost their ground rapidly.
At present, Xiaomi rules the Indian smartphone market with 30 percent market share. It also gained 90 million users in India in a very short time.
The PLI scheme was introduced on April 1 earlier this year by the Government of India that aims to position India as a global hub for Electronics System Design and Manufacturing. This scheme also provides an incentive to India based manufacturers.
According to the industry body ICEA, Lava, Dixon, Micromax, Padget Electronics, Sojo, UTL, and Optiemus have lined up for availing the benefits under the production-linked incentive PLI scheme.
Will It Be Micromax IN 1A?
A tipster on Twitter revealed that the Micromax 'in' series has been spotted on the Geekbench database. The Geekbench listing suggests that the Micromax In1 will be equipped with a 2.3GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P35 SoC processor. It also reveals that the smartphone will come with 4GB of RAM and runs on Android 10. However, the date of launch and other features are still unknown as of now.
