India’s largest power plant equipment manufacturer, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), on Thursday (25 May) commissioned a 270 megawatt (MW) thermal power unit at Sinnar in Nashik district of Maharashtra. The plant is the fourth such initiative by the company in a span of 35 days.
The newly-commissioned unit is part of RattanIndia Power Ltd’s 5x270 MW thermal power project. The equipment for the project was supplied by various manufacturing units of BHEL located at Tiruchirappalli, Ranipet, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal and Haridwar and the construction work was carried out by BHEL’s Western arm.
BHEL said that it has so far commissioned 14 270MW power units in the country, including nine for the RattanIndia group. Five of these 14 units, each of 270MW are at Amravati in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra generated around 165,502 MW power in 2016-17, according to data provided by the ministry of power.
BHEL is the market leader in the Indian power sector with a total generation capacity of around 180,000MW.
Shares of BHEL traded at 0.60 per cent higher, from the previous day, at Rs 150.95 when the Bombay Stock Exchange opened on Thursday (25 May).
