Lenovo has declared the release of the ThinkSmart Core Gen 2, one of the first AI-optimised computing devices specifically designed for video conferencing room systems. Powered by Intel Core Ultra processors with an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), the ThinkSmart Core Gen 2 is engineered to handle the demands of AI-intensive tasks, offering businesses improved performance for collaboration and productivity, while consuming 40 per cent less power compared to previous models.
The ThinkSmart Core Gen 2 supports AI-enabled features such as intelligent framing of participants, auto voice detection, smart name tags and real-time meeting summaries. It integrates with collaboration platforms like Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms, leveraging AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot and Zoom AI Companion. These capabilities provide predictive assistance, suggesting actions or resources before they are requested, and delivering real-time productivity analytics.
The device is powered by Intel’s latest Core Ultra 7 165H and Ultra 5 135H processors on the Intel vPro platform. Available with up to 32GB of dual-channel DDR5 memory running at 5600MHz and up to 256GB PCIe TLC SSD storage, the device also features Intel Arc graphics. In terms of connectivity, the ThinkSmart Core Gen 2 includes multiple ports for flexible room configurations, such as two HDMI-Out, one HDMI-Ingest and several USB-C and USB-A ports for easy integration with a wide range of peripherals. The device also supports WLAN 802.11 AC (2x2) and Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0 for wireless connectivity.
As per the company, the device can operate continuously throughout the year in temperatures ranging from 5 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius. Its fanless enclosure and removable cable management system provide a compact, sleek setup, making it suitable for various room configurations. The device also incorporates advanced security features, including TPM 2.0 and Kensington MiniSaver lock slots, along with hardware-based protection through the Intel vPro platform and automatic Windows 11 security updates.
To support integration and installation, Lenovo offers the ThinkSmart Core Gen 2 Full Room Kit, which includes the ThinkSmart Bar 180, an intelligent speaker system that aims to enhance audio performance. The kit also comes with either the Lenovo IP Controller or ThinkSmart Controller, offering compatibility with different room setups.
The gadget comes preloaded with ThinkSmart Manager software for real-time remote manageability and includes a three-year Lenovo warranty with Premier Support, along with a one-year ThinkSmart Manager Premium license. The device also includes access to Lenovo Smart Collaboration Professional Services for deployment and maintenance support. The ThinkSmart Core Gen 2, bundled with the Controller, starts at USD 2,900 (approximately Rs 2,43,733) and will be available by the end of 2024.
