The Karnataka government is reportedly discussing the investment proposal to interest the global electric car maker Tesla to set up a plant there. The investment details are not publicly disclosed, but the plans were indicated by Karnataka’s Industries Minister MB Patil on Friday.
The Minister’s disclosure came in response to an X post that questioned if the government of Karnataka is wooing Tesla and Elon Musk to set up a unit in the state. Following this Patil confirmed he is pushing the Congress government to support the electric vehicle manufacturer.
Additionally, the comments were followed by Telangana Industries Minister Duddila Sridhar Babu’s remarks who further emphasised the government's efforts to bring Tesla to India.
While Patil has hinted at the government’s electric car-making aims. He does not disclose any detail stating such deals are sensitive and restricted to public revelation until final. He stressed that this is not politics, and the administration has certain restrictions and policies that bid mature working.
Meanwhile, Tesla registered a subsidiary in Bengaluru in January 2021, which has since then swirled several speculations about its plans to enter the Indian automobile sector. The then CM, BS Yediyurappa, had even confirmed at that time that Tesla would indeed set up an R&D unit in Bengaluru.
