India's internal security challenges have evolved beyond traditional threats like terrorism and insurgencies. A recent study by Assocham in collaboration with EY highlights that emerging risks, such as cyberattacks and organised crime, demand advanced technological solutions, which can only be addressed effectively through the involvement of the private sector. Industry players can contribute by supplying state-of-the-art equipment, offering private security services and participating in strategic partnerships.
The study also outlines the importance of collaboration between government agencies and the private sector in strengthening national security.
It identifies several areas where industry engagement is critical, including the supply of equipment and goods to security forces, project implementation and consultancy services. The report stresses the need for innovation through technologies like AI, machine learning, and advanced surveillance systems, which can strengthen the response capabilities of law enforcement agencies.
In addition, the report calls for improvements in government procurement processes and policies, suggesting that more streamlined approaches would encourage wider industry participation. It also emphasises the role of strategic partnerships, such as setting up Centers of Excellence, to foster innovation and co-development of technologies tailored to India’s unique security challenges.
The findings underline that the active involvement of the industry is essential to realise the vision of "Viksit Bharat" by 2047. By integrating industry expertise and cutting-edge technologies, India can build a more robust and secure internal security framework capable of addressing future challenges.
