Joint efforts between India and the United States in tackling climate change are set to pave the way for the creation of well-paying green jobs, said Jorgan K Andrews, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy.
Addressing the 21st Indo-US Economic Summit organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) in New Delhi, Andrews emphasised the growing partnership between the two nations, particularly in the fields of climate change mitigation and energy transition.
“The impact on our collective prosperity, if we do not address these climate issues together, is profound. Together, we are reducing emissions and helping India to grow in a way that limits global climate challenges while creating the well-paying green jobs we all hope to see,” Andrews said.
He highlighted the deepening bilateral ties between India and the US as a recent bilateral discussion held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the QUAD Summit in the US.
Andrews also said that the upcoming India-US Commercial Dialogue and CEOs Forum to be held in Washington next week. The forum will be co-chaired by India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal and US Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo. This dialogue is expected to further strengthen economic cooperation between the two nations.
“India-US bilateral cooperation, which currently encompasses trade and investment, defence and security, education, science and technology, cyber security, and high technology, holds the promise of a better future for their citizens. Business plays a pivotal role in fostering stronger ties between India and the United States, paving the way for a more prosperous future,” he said.
Abhay Sinha, Director General of the Services Export Promotion Council, highlighted that the US remains a key partner for India's services sector, which is valued at USD 350 billion.
Lalit Bhasin, Summit Chair and Immediate Past President of the IACC pointed to the enduring strength of Indo-US relations, which he expects to grow regardless of the outcome of the upcoming US elections.
With a focus on creating synergies in both services and manufacturing, there is potential for Indo-US collaboration in addressing global challenges while fostering economic growth.
