The India Electronic and Semiconductor Association (IESA) signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the states of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
The agreements were formalised on the sidelines of Semicon India 2023. The first MoU was inked with the Gujarat State Electronics & IT Corporation Limited (GSEM). The collaboration will place a special emphasis on skill development and the creation of fabless entities—companies that outsource their semiconductor fabrication.
The second MoU was established with the Government of Uttar Pradesh through the Uttar Pradesh Electronics Corporation Limited (UPLC). This strategic partnership will look to curate semiconductor and fabless policies for the state through a multi-stakeholder engagement approach. The focus will also be on establishing hardware centers of excellence, further strengthening the semiconductor ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh. Skilling initiatives will take center stage, ensuring that the state's workforce is well-equipped to thrive in the evolving semiconductor landscape.
In a statement, Sanjay Gupta, Chairperson of IESA said “With increasing demand and projected growth, the semiconductor industry is set to reach a market size of USD 85 billion and create employment opportunities for around 600,000 individuals by 2030, through semicon we have created a path and voice that India can achieve anything and create its own semiconductor hub and create maximum employment as well.”
