Union Minister of State for Electronics & Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Friday said Central Government will invest USD 2 billion into the Semi-conductor Laboratory (SCL) in Mohali. The investments will be targeted at encouraging research and prototyping.
During the Delhi-leg of 3rd SemiconIndia futureDESIGN Roadshow, the Minister said Centre will work with leading institutes in the country such as IIT Delhi, IIT Chennai and more to build the India Semiconductor Research Institute as a Centre of Excellence (CoE).
Chandrasekhar said that Centre’s target is to create 100 Semiconductor design startups.
"We are working on a mission mode under PM Modi's leadership to achieve in the next 10 years that China took 30 years to achieve in electronics and semiconductors," the Minister said.
In December 2021, Centre had initiated the India Semiconductor Mission with an incentive outlay of Rs 76,000 crore to attract investments in the sector.
"There is nothing in the digital space or in the tech space that India will not be a part of, in the coming years. We will be into all things technology,” he added.
The Roadshow at Delhi is expected to announce names of two startups who will receive support under the Design-Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme. Earlier this year, Centre had announced Vervesemi Microelectronics Pvt. Ltd, Fermionic Design Pvt. Ltd. and DV2JS Innovation Ltd as recipients of DLI scheme support for chip design.
