Google is currently developing a new feature for its Gemini app, which will soon allow users to play music through third-party streaming services such as Spotify and Amazon Music.
This update, reported by Android Authority, adds a "Music" option within the Gemini Settings page, signaling an upcoming enhancement that could significantly boost the app's utility and appeal.
Launched in February, the Gemini app replaced Google Assistant on Android devices, introducing users to a range of generative AI features like image and text generation, and text summarisation. Despite these advancements, Gemini initially lacked some of the functionalities provided by Google Assistant, particularly in music streaming.
The report detailed that the music streaming feature is accessible via the settings menu on select Android devices. However, currently, this leads to a blank page, suggesting that the integration is still under development. Once activated, the feature is expected to allow users to seamlessly use voice commands to manage music playback from their chosen third-party apps—a functionality previously enjoyed with Google Assistant.
Google has not yet announced a specific timeline for the rollout of this feature but it is anticipated to be available to users in the coming weeks. In the interim, users can continue to use Google Assistant, accessible within the Gemini app, to play music from services like Spotify, YouTube Music, and more.
