The Elife E8 focuses on providing a great camera experience thanks to the 24MP camera sensor with OIS (Optical image stabilization) and a 6-element lens protected with a Sapphire glass. Gionee has also incorporated a software feature where one can shoot upto 120MP ultra-pixel photos, which is a first in any smartphone, but sounds a bit over the top. There is also an 8MP camera in the front for taking selfies.
The smartphone comes with a fairly large footprint and has a metal finish which gives it a premium feel. Since all new high-end Android smartphones are coming with a fingerprint sensor, Gionee has also added one right below the camera. The company didn’t talk much about the sensor so assumingly it will perform basic functions like unlocking the smartphone and making secure payments. The display is a 6-inch AMOLED panel with a 2K (2560x1440) resolution which looks sharp and vivid. In the hardware department you get a top of the line MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core chipset with 3GB RAM and 64GB of storage. There are two SIM card slots and it supports 4G LTE speeds as well. To juice up the smartphone there is a 3500mAh battery with quick charge technology that can fully charge the device in less than 2 hours. The smartphone will run on Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box topped with Gionee’s new Amigo OS 3.1.
The E8 is Gionee’s most expensive handset ever and it could face difficulties in attracting customers as India is a price conscious market. The company has had better success in the low and mid-range segment especially the Marathon series and the low priced F103. There is also an a new 4G handset coming from the brand in the coming months which will be an India exclusive smartphone.
