Axis Bank has appointed NS Vishwanathan, former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as an independent director and non-executive (part-time) chairman. According to the official statement, Vishwanathan's appointment will be effective from 27 October 2023, or from the date of approval by the RBI if it is received after that. His tenure as Chairman will last for a period of three years.
Vishwanathan, a career central banker, handled critical areas such as regulation and quit ahead of his scheduled retirement in 2020. His vast experience and understanding of the regulatory landscape will be valuable in guiding strategic decision-making at Axis Bank.
In response to his appointment, Vishwanathan expressed his eagerness to contribute to the bank's agenda and collaborate closely with the distinguished Board of Directors.
